The Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture is “an exhibit, a laboratory, and a campus” whose mission is to “celebrate, teach and advance community-based food production and enjoyment, from farm to classroom to table.” It combines an 80-acre, four-season farm, an environmental education center and the celebrated Blue Hill at Stone Barns restaurant ― all centered around a quadrangle of fieldstone barns built by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. during the 1930s. The Center was established by a foundation headed by David Rockefeller and his daughter Peggy Dulany, and is located in the hamlet of Pocantico Hills in Mount Pleasant, New York.

Working closely with town officials, planning consultants and neighboring residents, DTS helped to create a new Open Space Resource zoning district for the property. We also managed the environmental approval process for the project to permit the multi-faceted Stone Barns facility to provide public access to a variety of interrelated programs, while protecting the interests of surrounding single-family properties.

In addition, DTS developed site engineering strategies and designed a system of naturalized low-impact development (LID) stormwater management measures that complemented the rural feel of the site while satisfying regulatory and program requirements.
