Scenic Hudson’s Long Dock Park
The opening of Scenic Hudson’s Long Dock Park transformed a 14-acre peninsula of former oil storage facility and junkyard into a major Hudson River waterfront amenity in Beacon, New York. Features of the park include a kayak and canoe beach and storage pavilion, rehabilitated wetlands, nature trails, picnic and outdoor classroom areas and a fishing pier. An historic red barn on the site was renovated to serve as the home of the Scenic Hudson River Center, which hosts art-based community programs and environmental education classes.
Long Dock Park was awarded a three-star rating by SITES, the national rating system for sustainable landscapes led by the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and the US Botanic Garden. DTS provided civil engineering and stormwater management design, approval and construction administration services for the project as part of an interdisciplinary team led by Scenic Hudson.
Our integrated, strategic approach to project planning and implementation balances the concerns of the land owner, the community, and the environment with the specific characteristics of the site, enabling us to create intelligent land use solutions.
